This Is Only A Test

Look who came to my porchlight!

This snouty little fellow is a Green Cloverworm Moth! He’s a new one for the yardlist, but I’m posting this primarily to test out the new Squash’s Garden blog function.

He feeds on clover, vetch, beans, and a number of other nitrogen fixers, but it’s generally recommended that people leave him alone, as he’s a very minor pest and will keep beneficial predators fed until the real baddies show up.

It must be nice to see moths in December! We only see snow, snow, snow from now until April.

What a cute little guy 😀 I like his nose.

I think you’ve convinced me to start my own yardlist. But I can’t help pointing out that yours is missing the entire fungal kingdom. If you happen to notice any mushrooms popping up, the friendly people at mushroomobserver.org are extremely helpful with puzzling out what they are.

(If your Monks of Mycology were a real order I would join them at once. Really what I’m trying to do here is cause more of the people I follow online to post things about mushrooms.)

You are absolutely right–we get some neat mushrooms, but it’s such a huge field and I am so ignorant of it that my one stab in that direction was ID’ing the Dog Vomit Slime Mold! I shall have to check out that site!
